Tuna in a tomato and basil sauce

Ingredients:
2 Tuna steaks (2cm thick)
1 onion finely chopped
4 ripe tomatoes peeled and chopped
Marinade:
1 clove of garlic
2 tbsp of lemon juice
1 fresh chilli
1 tbsp fresh basil
2 tbsp olive oil

Method:
Marinade the fish for 1 hour.
Drain and pat dry. Reserve the marinade.
Sauce:
Fry the onion until soft then add the tomatoes and the marinade.
Cook for 30 minutes. Sieve the sauce and keep warm.

Brush a ribbed grill pan with a little olive oil and heat until it starts smoking.
Sear the tuna for 1 minute on each side.
Season with sea salt and freshly ground pepper.
Place on a bed of tomato sauce and garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
Serve with new potatoes and sauteed green beans or simply a dressed salad.

Note: Tuna should ideally be served undercooked because the longer it is cooked, the tougher it gets.

Delicious!!! Same recipe is used on the Algarve! I do this one from time to time.

DC, I thought you'd have it in Portugal. As we agreed in the past, most Mediterranean countries (including Portugal) cook similar dishes with a few variations.

That's one of the things that make tourism around the med so nice: you can have a great meal anywhere!!!
